Synopsis
Claire Beauchamp Randall, a World War II nurse, mysteriously travels back in time to Scotland in 1743. There she meets a Highland warrior and becomes embroiled in an epic rebellion. Moore (TV series developer), his staff decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English.
In several episodes, characters say “OK”
This kept the narration in the first person, showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic. The idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he had seen something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternate history film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart. ; An American term that only came into use in the 19th century.
The opening theme song changes from season to season to reflect what is happening in the plot
In the first half of the second season (set in France), some of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of season two (mostly about the buildup to war), a militaristic drum roll is added to the opening song. Tribal drums are added in season three as most of the season is set in the West Indies.
What should I do?
In season four, bluegrass fiddle and banjo are added, and some lyrics are sung in a Southern accent, as the season is mostly set in America. Featured in Outlander: An Epic Adaptation (2015).
