There’s a scene where the characters discuss their favorite Christmas movies
Synopsis
Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer calls in Sam to protect her… Neither of them mentions Love, Actually, a very popular Christmas movie.
It starts off really well
This is probably because Keira Knightley stars in both.. Featured in Graham Norton and guests: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024). It’s one of those ordinary entertainments where you can’t really criticize the acting, and the production values are almost impeccable.
But John Le Carre is not
You think you’re about to be sucked in and seduced by a complex spy thriller. Instead, you soon realize that it’s neither serious nor funny. As is so often the case these days, the lack of story is the problem.
Sadly disappointing, it could have been very good
It has quirky characters and really characters with all the charm and conversational intelligence we expect from psychopaths. They might be related to Eve from Killing Eve, but they’re poor cousins and don’t quite fit the bill for psychopath DNA inheritance. It’s a comic book caricature of a spy thriller with a story that relies on a thin plot and frequent action scenes to fill in the blanks.
